Guest post: Laguna Blue
We are not exaggerating when we say gyms are some of the most germ-ridden places on earth. The average toilet for example has 362 times less germs than your average free weights at the gym. If this isn’t a red flag, we don’t know what is!
Here at Laguna Blue, we recognized this fact after our COO contracted MRSA from a dirty, cotton gym towel at his local gym. We designed our towels to help keep you and your family healthy whether it is at the gym, pool, beach or your home. Next time you’re at the gym, we recommend the follow tips to help you stay healthy and active:
Wipe down your gym equipment
This one may be a no-brainer, but wiping down your gym equipment before and after use erases some of the harmful bacteria that may be left behind. If your gym doesn’t have disinfectant spray, bring your own. You’ll be doing yourself and your fellow gym members a favor!
Bring your own towel
Cotton towels are known to be transmitters of viruses and bacteria. Cotton towels more specifically retain moisture, which is where bacteria thrive! Towels act as your barrier, so why would you want a towel that could pick up the germs you are trying to avoid? Our Laguna Blue towel is scientifically proven* to reduce the spread of harmful bacteria by 99.8%. Don’t worry if your local gym’s towels are clean. Bring your own!

Cover open wounds
Our COO learned this one the hard way. A tiny cut under his eye left turned into a severe MRSA infection landing him in the ICU. Think of an open wound like a magnet for bacteria. Placing a BandAid or a sanitary medical wrap on your scrapes, cuts or scratches can significantly reduce the risk of contracting a dangerous virus or infection at the gym.
Shed those sweaty clothes ASAP
Similar to moist towels, damp or wet clothes are breeding grounds for bacteria. Postpone your lunch date after the gym and head straight to the showers.
Stay healthy and active this summer!
