Located on the North Shore and only two short miles from the energetic downtown scene, Stringer’s Ridge is a forested oasis filled with 10 miles of multi-use trails including mountain biking. I’m so fortunate to have access to this park and all it has to offer within walking and riding distance of my house. My late afternoon routine usually consists of a hike on one of the trails which boasts beautiful views of downtown Chattanooga.
Back in the Spring when all of the leaves and blooms came out, my husband and I decided to take our bikes and explore some of the trails. Since my Schwinn Gateway, a perfect bike for getting around the city, is not equipped for heavy duty trail riding, we stuck to the paved areas. For the serious mountain biking enthusiasts, there are miles of trails at all levels.
In 2007, Stringer’s Ridge was threatened by a plan to construct 500 condominiums into the hillside of this historic land. Luckily the Chattanooga Community rallied against this development and reached out to The Trust for Public land to preserve the 92-acres. You can learn more about their efforts here.
Fortunately, this land was preserved and is heavily used by the community. I’m looking forward to exploring all of the trails and seeing the leaves change here this Fall! Traveling to Chattanooga for a cycling adventure? Check out a detailed map of the Stringers Ridge Trails here.
Nicole is a curious, vivacious graphic and web designer who recently moved to Chattanooga, TN. As a designer, she loves the vintage styles and lines of a bygone era. She is an avid cyclist who spends her summers cruising around on a classic Schwinn her dad restored for her. Now it’s time for a new city and a new Schwinn! Nicole can’t wait to see what her new outdoor-oriented town has to offer. Chattanooga, known as “The Scenic City,” is a well-hidden gem in southeastern Tennessee twice awarded as Outside magazine’s coveted “Best Town Ever.” Because of its access to trails and urban cycling, Nicole now has every opportunity to explore Chattanooga’s booming social scene and natural wonders over the handlebars of her Schwinn Gateway.
