I’m so thrilled to be back for a second year as a Schwinn Ambassador! Last year I explored my new city of Chattanooga, TN on the Schwinn Gateway, and quickly discovered that I’m not comfortable riding on the roads with cars. The amount of texting and distracted drivers is downright scary, and I’ve concluded I’ll never be comfortable on the road.
This year I’ll be exploring Chattanooga’s paved riding trails on the Schwinn Circuit and sightseeing that doesn’t involve cycling in heavy traffic. My husband and I decided to start with riding the new section of The Riverwalk with our neighbors James and Kelly.
The Riverwalk consists of 13 miles of paved trails that run along the Tennessee River with further plans for expansion. The new section we explored showcases Chattanooga’s industrial past mixed in with new construction and the growing downtown attractions. Think zombie apocalypse meets well groomed, urban trail.
The trail currently ends at Crust Pizza known for their, “superfamouscrackerthin” crust; the perfect type of pizza to indulge in after a long bike ride. We dined on their covered patio where we could keep an eye on our bikes. Of course we can’t have pizza without beer, so we threw back one (ok, more than one) of our favorite local brews, Chattanooga Brewing Co’s Chickbock.
After all the pizza eating, beer drinking, and bike riding we were ready for a cold, tasty ice cream treat to finish the night off. Trying to get ice cream in this town on a warm evening is nearly impossible. We tried 3 different places with lines around the block until we visited Milk and Honey. Gelato for everyone with a relatively short line.
We had one last big hill to climb on our way home. We were thankful for the lightweight Schwinn Circuits that make hill climbing in Chattanooga a breeze!
Nicole is a curious, vivacious graphic and web designer who recently moved to Chattanooga, TN. As a designer, she loves the vintage styles and lines of a bygone era. She is an avid cyclist who spends her summers cruising around on a classic Schwinn her dad restored for her. Now it’s time for a new city and a new Schwinn! Chattanooga, known as “The Scenic City,” is a well-hidden gem in southeastern Tennessee twice awarded as Outside magazine’s coveted “Best Town Ever.” Because of its access to trails and urban cycling, Nicole plans to spend her second year as a Schwinn Ambassador touring Chattanooga’s many paved trails with her husband on their matching Schwinn Circuits.
