Our family recently went through a big transition: we relocated from Annapolis, MD to Jacksonville, FL. As most of you probably know, relocating is stressful – and it’s not just the packing and unpacking, and the millions of boxes that plague your new home for months. Everything is new, which can be exciting, but also a bit overwhelming.
In our case, boxes aside, we couldn’t be happier. We are beach lovers and are fortunate enough to have the beach just 10 minutes away from our new home. And now that our son has learned how to ride his “Big Boy” bike (Schwinn’s Aerostar), we felt it was time to have a little family adventure and try riding our bikes on the beach.
We loaded our bikes on the rack on my car – no easy thing I have to say, that was a workout by itself! Schwinn generously sent us a Schwinn S1, and Max’s Aerostar, so the bikes went up on the bike rack and off we were!
The wicker basket on my Beach Cruiser was perfect to carry a few beach essentials: water bottles, sunscreen, beach towel, and of course, the iphone to take pictures with!
I would say that the hardest part of this little adventure was pushing the bikes through the softer sand trying to get through the beach and get closer to the water, where the sand is compacted down, flat, and definitely easier to ride on. Once we got there the fun began. There is nothing better (for us at least) than feeling the ocean breeze in our faces, and being able to ride freely on the sand was just priceless. Besides, not having to worry about cars or falls on pavement, really made it a relaxing experience.
We rode for a good while and then took a break to swim for a bit and relax. Before we knew it was close to lunch time so we got back on our bikes, with out wet bathing suits on, tanned faces and huge smiles, and rode back to our car before heading out to get some fresh fish for lunch. It was a perfect Sunday morning and one we hope to repeat frequently.

I am professional photographer living in Annapolis with my husband Daniel, my son Max and our golden retriever Lucy. As a family, we enjoy spending time outdoors, going to the beach, camping, riding our bikes on trails, and just having fun together. Our son has been riding a training bike and we think he’s at the right age to transition to a “big boy” bike, so he’s trying out the Schwinn Aerostar bike.
We are also moving soon to Florida, so we will spend sometime exploring our new hometown on our bikes. And of course, I’ll bring my camera along to document our adventures!
