It’s Summer! And for most Philadelphians, like myself, that means weekend trips to the Jersey Shore. There are dozens of vacation destinations along the coast to choose from, but my weekend gateway spot is North Wildwood, one of the five boroughs that make up The Wildwoods along the Southern coast. The entire island of The Wildwoods stretches for nearly five miles and is filled with plenty of charm. The Wildwoods are widely known for their Doo-Wop style since most of their motels were built during the 1950s and 1960s.
The Wildwoods are great for the entire family. There is never a shortage of fun activities to enjoy. Whether you are in the mood to lay on the beach, go on rides on one of three piers, or mini golf, you can always find something to do.
One of my favorite activities to do is to ride my Schwinn up and down the boardwalk. Each morning the boardwalk is open to people who wish to ride their bikes until 11 a.m. It is a terrific way to start the morning, breathing in the fresh salt air and enjoying the calming atmosphere of being close to the beach.
On my last boardwalk bike ride, I decided to visit the famous Wildwoods sign. It is a sign where tourist can take photos in front of and it resembles the Hollywood sign. For many it has become a tradition to take photos in front of it. It even has a camera on it streaming a live broadcast online so people all over can see the people snapping photos with it.
Also on my journey, I stopped at Laura’s Fudge, one of my favorite places down the shore to get fudge. They have an old-fashioned way of doing things and their store fits right into the Doo-Wop theme I mentioned earlier. It is the best places to go if you are craving something sweet.
I am so happy summer is finally here and I cannot wait for more trips to The Wildwoods. Like the theme song says, “every day is a holiday and every night is a Saturday night.” Keep riding everyone and enjoy the rest of summer!
Hey everyone! My name is Craig Diviny and I am a 21-year-old Philadelphia native currently studying advertising at Temple University. I enjoy art, photography, sports, and just about anything that has to do with the great outdoors. I love exploring the city in my spare time and snapping photos of anything that catches my eye.
When I am out of class and have free time in the summers, I like to travel. I may be from the City of Brotherly Love, but Wildwood, NJ is like a second home to me. Wildwood is a vibrant beachfront town along the Southern coast of the Jersey Shore. It is a place where you leave the car at home and ride your bike everywhere.
Life is a journey and it is one I hope to capture with the help of my Schwinn. Becoming an Schwinn Ambassador is truly an amazing opportunity and I could not be more excited for the road ahead.
