For our third and final trip we knew we had to find a special part of New Zealand to show off to you all. The little country town of Waihi quickly came to mind, known for it’s gold mining heritage and it’s unique entry point – through the Karangahake Gorge.
First up we had a great time exploring the gold mine ruins site and getting creative weaving in and out of the tight gaps of the ruins.
We then joined up to the track which ran riverside of the Ohinemuri and offered some grand views as we made our way through the incredible Karangahake Gorge. This part of the biking was definitely the highlight, with plenty of awesome spots to stop at and explore.
Many rock climbing adventures and a swing bridge or two later we found ourselves at the entrance to the old rail tunnel.
After taking a couple more photos we finished the circuit off with a blast downhill through the 1.1km tunnel which spat us out at a final bridge across the highway to where we had begun.
Seeing this part of New Zealand on the bikes enabled us to see so much more than we would have if we were just walking, not only this but it made the whole journey so much fun. As we were putting the bikes on the car we couldn’t help but smile at all the places those bikes had unlocked for us and the memories they had created.
Thanks so much to Schwinn for hooking us up with these bikes and allowing us to rediscover our country through them, we can’t wait for all the future adventures they’ll take us on.
