Whoever said diamonds were a girl’s best friend obviously wasn’t a biker. Or, at least, they weren’t at the level where they could wear their diamonds while they biked.
If you know me, you’ll know that I am a self professed “girly-girl.” I love flowers and glitter and unicorns and pretty much anything you can find in the color pink. My bike is gold and sparkles every time I take it out for a ride.
I love being a feminine part of the biking community, because so often I feel like bikers get lumped into this mountain-climbing, ultra-rugged, class of very serious people. I refute that and raise it a tube of fire-engine red lipstick. ‘Cause this girl is ready for some glamour.
I’ve always loved vintage things, that’s was part of the reason I bought my first Schwinn, which is from the 1970s. She’s an absolute beauty. Now, five years later, I was so happy to find out that I could still get the same classy style with my new Schwinn. And even better? The Mifflin-hybrid is adorable and practical for my active lifestyle.
With a background in fashion design, and a love of all things vintage (I’ve seen just about every black and white movie from the 1940s), it makes sense that I would bring that style to 2017 with my Mifflin-hybrid. From the wicker basket, to the classic shape, it’s a fashion statement in itself every time I ride.
I remember the first time I took my Schwinn out for a ride; people started smiling and asking me about where I got such a cute bike. They loved that it had such a fun style, while also having the power of seven gears and treaded tires.
You see, in Seattle we don’t really “dress up.” We’re an out-doorsy community of toe-shoes and socks with sandals. So it makes sense that a sparkly gold bike would cause some heads to turn.
But it doesn’t bother me. I love the idea of riding my bike with my sailor-esque whale print dress, red lipstick and my newest pair of heels—which are gold (of course).
August was bike safety month, so I thought it would be the perfect time to glam the camera with my Mystique helmet. Hanging out in the sun, around my neighborhood, was so much fun and I’m absolutely in love with the results.
So ladies, if you’re ever feeling a bit out of place in the biking world, take a piece of advice: ride with pride. Everyone looking the same takes the fun out of the biking experience, and I’m so happy my personal style fits perfectly with the Schwinn brand. Let’s go catch some rainbows!
