Wisconsin resident Keegan Inman Bingham (7) was born with an ailment that no child should ever have to suffer from – a congenital heart defect. Keegan has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome which means the left side of his heart can’t pump blood to his body leaving the right side to do all the work. Keegan’s first of many surgeries was open heart surgery just 2 weeks after he was born.
Keegan, an upbeat, energetic kid, who recently visited us at the Schwinn Headquarters in Madison WI, was selected by the American Heart Association of Wisconsin to lead this years Madison Heart Walk, on his bike. Of course that meant that Keegan needed to find the perfect bike to ride at the event. With several bikes to choose from Keegan quickly picked out the Schwinn Amplify as the right bike for him, and a helmet with flames graphics (that he refused to take off, even when he was off the bike). One of our favorite parts of his visit was, after exploring the entire office with his new bicycle, he decided that he was going to start working here and would be coming to work everyday to ride his bike!
With such an inspiring personality and can-do attitude it is easy to forget that Keegan has a heart condition and other health issues that will make it impossible for him to participate in sports; however, biking seems to be the perfect activity for Keegan.
Keegan will be leading the charge in the bike parade at the Madison Heart Walk coming up on September 24th. You can find out more about this event by clicking here.
