“Hey hey living like we’re the Renegades”, just kidding! Actually, Schwinn just gotten back from our second Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklynn, NY!
What is Renegade Craft Fair? Well imagine a place where Etsy comes to life and all your dreams come true. Okay maybe that second part isn’t completely accurate, but the artistry seen at these craft fairs is pretty amazing.
Renegade Craft Fair was founded in 2003, and really was the first organization that launched the underground DIY community into a physical event space. Today Renegade Craft Fair maintains its status as the “largest and most far-reaching indie-craft fair out there, attracting over 325,000 attendees across 22 events in 8 cities”.
This year Schwinn sponsored three makers (for you raising your eyebrows, a maker is someone who makes an item from hand.) The three makers Schwinn sponsored all specialized in items related to our overall bike theme, aka we had card designers and print makers who incorporated bikes, as well as those who repurpose bike materials or make panniers; you name it!
Also in attendance was the national advocacy group, People for Bikes, who were there to spread the word that better biking is something that everyone should have access to and together we can make possible.
Over the two days we attended the event we helped People for Bikes increase awareness while also gifting six lucky winners with new Schwinn Signature bikes, available exclusively at Schwinn Independent Bike Dealers throughout the country, and many others received a bit of Schwinn Shwagg to take home! We heard great stories from wonderful people, saw incredible handmade goods, and had some amazing food including homemade ice-cream, macaroons, and empanadas.
If you have a chance to check out the a Renegade Craft Fair, the fair will be continuing to travel throughout the country this fall and winter so be sure to check it out!
