Schwinn partners with local Wisconsin chapter of Habitat for Humanity and provides families with new bikes
Madison, Wis. – April 03, 2016 – Schwinn Bicycles, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A), today announced a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County, located in Madison, Wisconsin. Schwinn will offer bikes to local families whose homes are completed by Habitat for Humanity this year.
Since 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has built 241 simple, decent and affordable homes. The homes are built in partnership with Habitat partner families, who provide labor and make monthly mortgage payments on their homes at a 0% interest rate.
“We want to thank Schwinn Bicycles for partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County,” said Valerie Johnson, Habitat CEO. “We appreciate the brand’s gift to our families and for helping make Dane County an even better place to live.”
Through these bike donations, Schwinn wants to provide families with the ability to explore Madison on two wheels and learn about the city’s incredible cycling infrastructure. Madison was recently the recipient of Platinum Status as “bicycle friendly” by the League of American Bicyclists. The bikes will also provide families with a healthy commuting alternative to work or school.
Schwinn will work closely with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County and participating families to determine the right bike for each family member. “Our goal is to get families on bikes,” said Milissa Rick, Senior Director of Marketing for Schwinn. “We want to encourage parents and children to ride together, as well as instill healthy habits and excitement around bicycles and the city of Madison. We are excited to be part of such a wonderful program this year.”
Schwinn is headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, where all the bikes are designed. With 91 employees who call Madison their home, Schwinn, like Habitat for Humanity of Dane County, is invested in creating a healthy community.
