Last week, two iconic American companies, Schwinn® and the Levi’s® brand announced the first phase of their 2015 collaboration on social channels; an exclusive co-branded Levi’s® Kids x Schwinn Sting-Ray bike.
The brands teamed up in early 2014 to celebrate their loyal fans and shared commitment to heritage, quality, and modern innovation. The brands agreed it was the perfect opportunity to bring back a classic – Al Fritz’s Sting-Ray.
The Schwinn® Sting-Ray was created in 1962 by the then Schwinn® Vice President for Engineering, Research and Development, Al Fritz. Since its invention the Sting-Ray has become one of the most iconic Schwinn bicycles to date. The original Sting-Ray was in production from 1963-1981, while the more famous models of Sting-Rays, the Krates, were produced for a limited time from 1968-1973. This series of Sting-Ray bikes together make up some of the most notable and recognized bicycles in Schwinn’s 120 year history of innovation.
The Levi’s® Kids x Schwinn® exclusive co-branded Sting-Ray features unique design elements that elegantly pay homage to the Levi’s® brand. Aside from brand logos on the top tube, the seat of the bicycle looks as though it was stitched together like a pair of Levi’s® jeans, with a batwing symbolizing the Levi’s® red tab. The chaingaurd cleverly incorporates a cross stitched arcuate and rivets – classic features of Levi’s® denim. Perhaps the most exciting part of the bike is the rear reflector shaped like the Levi’s® batwing logo.
Only 5 Levi’s® Kids x Schwinn® limited edition Sting-Rays will be released to the public. Four of these limited edition bicycles will be donated to four kids-focused charities: Alex’s Lemonade Stand, Cycles of Change, San Francisco Yellow Bike, and PitCCH In. The fifth Sting-Ray is currently being promoted in a giveaway sweepstakes for brand fans. This first phase of the contest closes on February 13, 2015 at midnight CT.
Be sure to check out both Schwinn® and Levi’s® channels on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to take a peek at the exclusive Sting-Ray, and for more exciting phases of the collaboration to come!
